2007 Pre-Season Outlook

The Generals have an optimistic outlook for the 2007 season under the guidance of first year manager Steve O'Sullivan. Sullivan is a former Marist and ACBL All-Star who played pro ball in the Cubs and Rangers systems.

The pitching staff will be anchored by Tom Costigan and Brian Pendergast, Manhattan College right handed pitchers, who were named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Costigan posted an 8-3 record with 3.84 ERA while Pendergast went 8-1 with a 3.05 ERA including five saves for the Jaspers.

Two St. Thomas Aquinas freshmen, Vinny Malzahn and John Mazzello, had excellent springs and form the nucleus of the position players. Mazzello was named the Northeast Region's top second baseman on the 2007 Daktronics All-Region Team. He topped the region with five triples and 26 stolen bases. He batted .409 with 47 runs scored. Malzahn was voted top rookie in the East Coast Conference. The big first baseman hit 12 home runs with 35 RBIs.

Shortstop Steve Tressler (Salve Regina) hit .391 and was named to the All Commonwealth Coast Conference First Team. DH and first baseman Chris Luick (Lafayette) was named to the Patriot League second team after hitting .344 with four home runs and 29 RBIs.
