Robins 2008 Season Summary


For the Peekskill Robins, 2008 which was the first year in their new home, will be looked at as a success as the team tied for 2nd place in the Kaiser Division and made the playoffs for the 5th season in a row, despite having 14 players go on the disabled list during the year.

Post Season Awards continue to be given to the club and this year, Brock Whiteman of Muskingum College won the Batting Title with a .369 average, Tom Moran won the Relief Pitcher's Award with a 6-0 record in 20 appearances with a 1.81 ERA and Blake Cover of the University of Nebraska- Kearney, was the Robin's Recipient of the Jeff Gallagher Sportsmanship Award.

Other players who had good seasons were: Sean Allaire of Central Ct.[.277] Jovan Rodriguez of Faulkner University [.264] Matt Maher of Fairleigh Dickinson [.263] and Tucker Nathans of Fairfield University [.262]

On the mound, Matison Smith of Lamar was 2-4 in 47 innings pitched with a 2.87 ERA and Nick Hall of Nebraska-Kearney was 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 32 innings pitched.

Two players who were signed late in the season, also had a significant impact on the club. Steven Pinto of Manhattanville College, hit .393 in 61 at bats with 24 hits and Peter Barone of Marist was 2-2 in 31.2 innings pitched with a 0.85 ERA with 32 strikeouts.

The Robins are also known for getting players signed and this year was no exception as 11 current or former players inked professional contracts, bring the overall total to 44 for a 5 year period.
