Whalers 2008 Highlights |
Phil Klein (Whalers, Youngstown State) won the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League earned run average title, posting a 1.02 mark while also compiling a 5-2 won-loss record. Klein also became the first pitcher in league history to throw a perfect game, setting down all 21 hitters he faced in the Whalers' 8-0 victory over Metro N.Y. on July 13. Klein also led the league in batting average against (.170) and allowed just one extra-base hit all season.
Alan Parks (Whalers, Charlotte) was a terror on the basepaths, swiping 22 bases in as many attempts for a perfect 1.000 steal percentage. Parks finished third in the ACBL in thefts. He led the ACBL Kaiser Division champs in hits (28), runs (23) and walks (19).
