Blazers 2010 season summary


The 2010 Blazers completed one of the most exciting and successful seasons in their 27 years of ACBL action. The Blazers topped the Wolff Division with a 23-15 record and won three post season games prior to being edged 5-4 in the championship game at North Fork. The Blazers featured a total team effort in posting an overall record of 26-16 after a 2-6 start. First year manager Mike Schneider and his assistants, Eric Spadt, Steve Raysley and Dan Horoschock, emphasized team work and improvement in fundamentals.

Scott Kalamar broke the team outfield assist record with eleven assists while Cory Kent set a new save record with nine saves. David Drinks topped the pitchers with a 5-1 record and 1.09 ERA. Kevin Christy and Chuck Nicholas came up big in the playoffs as Christy pitched eight shutout innings against Jersey while Nicholas hurled seven shutout innings in the 2-1, 16 inning win over Torrington. Travis Hughes and Chris Nichols combined for eight wins also.

The Blazers led the ACBL with a team average of .301. Jim Quigley, Eric Kammler, Scott Kalamar, Adam Kammler, Dan Johnson and Rob Zinsmeister all posted .300 plus averages. Corey Buletza topped the Blazers with 12 doubles while Matt Tenaglia was the home run leader with two.

The Blazers look forward to 2011 with at least a dozen possible returnees from this young team.
